What is SpeakBali?+
SpeakBali is a gamified app for learning Balinese — the traditional language spoken on the island of Bali, Indonesia. You learn through bite-sized lessons, daily challenges, and interactive exercises designed to make vocabulary stick fast.

Subscribed users unlock deeper cultural insights, practical local tips, pronunciation guidance, and extended lesson content to help you speak naturally and respectfully.

Premium members go even further — with exclusive partner discounts at selected Bali-based businesses and access to a live Balinese translator feature for real-time communication support while travelling or living on the island.
Do I need any prior experience with Balinese?+
Not at all. SpeakBali is built for complete beginners. Lessons start with everyday words — greetings, numbers, food, family — and build from there. No prior Indonesian or Balinese knowledge is needed.
How do I create an account?+
Click Sign up and enter your email and a password. Once registered, you can start learning immediately — no credit card required for the free tier.
Is there a free plan?+
Yes. You can access a selection of beginner lessons and the daily challenge for free. A Premium subscription unlocks exclusive access to tips, tricks and tools to make your bali trip the best it can be.

Learning & Content

Lessons, XP, streaks, and how it all works.

How do lessons work?+
Each lesson covers 10 words from a specific category (e.g., Greetings, Food, Numbers). You'll answer questions in different modes — multiple choice, type the translation, and listening exercises — to reinforce learning from multiple angles.
What is XP and how do I earn it?+
XP (Experience Points) tracks your progress. You earn 10 XP per correct answer, and a streak multiplier boosts earnings as your daily streak grows. Completing the daily challenge awards a bonus 50 XP. XP is used to calculate your level.
What is a streak and how does it work?+
Your streak counts consecutive days of practice. Complete at least one lesson or the daily challenge each day to keep it going. Miss a day and the streak resets to 1. Longer streaks give an XP multiplier: 7-day streaks give 1.2×, 14-day give 1.5×, and 30-day give 2× XP.
What is the Daily Temple Challenge?+
The Daily Temple Challenge is a set of 10 mixed questions drawn from all lesson categories. It refreshes every day and awards a 50 XP completion bonus on top of your regular XP. It's the fastest way to maintain your streak and climb the leaderboard.
What categories are available?+
SpeakBali covers 10 categories: Greetings, Numbers, Food, Family, Nature, Travel, Common Phrases, Questions, Emotions, and Basic Verbs. Each has 10 words in the current beginner set.
What is the Bali Guide?+
The Bali Guide is a companion travel reference covering regions, food, cultural etiquette, safety tips, and travel planning advice. Some sections are free; deeper content (Hidden Gems, Festival Calendar, Insider Dining) requires a Premium subscription.

Billing & Subscriptions

What plans are available?+
We offer two subscription plans. Basic & Premium. Billed each month and can be cancelled anytime. See the pricing page for current prices.
How do I cancel my subscription?+
Go to Manage billing to open the Stripe customer portal. From there you can cancel, update your payment method, or switch plans. After cancelling, your Premium access continues until the end of the current billing period.
I paid but Premium didn't unlock — what do I do?+
First, sign out and sign back in — this refreshes your session and usually fixes it. Then try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R). If Premium still isn't showing, send us your account email and the approximate payment time via Contact and we'll resolve it within 1 business day.
Are there any hidden fees?+
No. You pay only the subscription price shown at checkout. Payments are processed securely by Stripe. SpeakBali does not store your card details.
Can I get a refund?+
Yes, in certain circumstances. Annual plans are eligible for a full refund within 14 days of purchase if you haven't used the service significantly. Monthly plans are non-refundable for the current period. Billing errors and technical issues are always handled fairly. See the full Refund Policy for details.

Technical Issues

Troubleshooting common problems.

The audio isn't playing — what should I check?+
  • Check your device is not on silent/do-not-disturb mode.
  • Turn your volume up and try a different lesson.
  • If using Bluetooth headphones, try disconnecting and using the speaker.
  • On iOS, use the physical ring/silent switch to unmute.
  • Try a hard refresh or a different browser.
The app isn't loading or behaving oddly.+
Try a hard refresh: Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac. Clear your browser cache if that doesn't help. If you're on mobile, fully close the app and reopen it, and check your internet connection.
My XP or streak doesn't look right.+
XP and streaks sync after each completed lesson or challenge. If something looks off, sign out and back in to force a refresh. If the issue persists after that, please contact us with your account email and we'll look into it.
Which browsers and devices are supported?+
SpeakBali works on any modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop and mobile. For the best experience, keep your browser up to date. We recommend Chrome or Safari on mobile for audio playback compatibility.

Account & Privacy

Your profile, data, and account management.

How do I change my email or display name?+
Go to your Profile page. You can update your display name from there. Email changes require verification via the link sent to your new address.
How do I delete my account?+
Account deletion is handled by our support team to ensure your data is fully removed. Send a deletion request to support@speakbali.com from your registered email address. We process requests within 5 business days.
How is my data used?+
We collect only what's needed to run the app — your email, learning progress, and subscription status. We do not sell your data. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
I forgot my password — how do I reset it?+
On the login page, click "Forgot password?" and enter your email. You'll receive a reset link. Check your spam/junk folder if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes.
